2. There is no satisfactory equivalent of Kleine Gemeinde in English. The terms, the
"small church" or the "little church" do not convey the full meaning which the term Kleine
Gemeinde has acquired in Mennonite history. Originally it was called Kleine Gemeinde
because it was a minority group. In 1952 the church adopted a new name: Evangelical
Mennonite Church.
