n the dynamic, dialogical life of the community of interpretation, which not only sets the boundaries of acceptable usage and interpretation, but also receives and incorporates new and creative readings in the consensus — a process that is evident in the Bible itself.’ (Charles L. With this evaluation of the role of a community in interpretation, it might be helpful to turn to Fowl and Jones who, while arguing that it is impossible to discover a context- independent method for reading the Scripture, reject anarchy or subjectivism as an arbiter in understanding the Bible. Insofar as we, too, are struggling to become the Church, we will be better able to hear what the texts are saying, and as a consequence better able to “perform the Scriptures.” (Nancey C.
