4, Reproduced in Dogmatika, AUCECB Bible Correspondence Course
(Moscow, 1970), pp. 256-281, ased on article written by A. I. Mitskevich, BV, 1/66,
pp. 44-55. Georgi Vins, Three Generations of Suffering, p. 108, lists the same seven
principles although in different order. When Mitskevich listed the seven principles
at the 1963 congress, he omitted the last two on freedom of conscience and separa-
tion of church and state, substituting rules for electing local leaders and how they
were to conduct themselves (BV, 6/63, p. 53). An earlier listing of principles by
Robert Vyzu (BV, 3-4/56, pp. 55-57) differs considerably. Six American Baptist
Conventions presented a statement on Baptist distinctives in 1967: 1) Authority
(Christ as Lord, Head of the church, the Scriptures), 2) Christian experience
(spiritual rebirth), 3) The church (fellowshi of believers, immersion baptism, the
Lord’s Supper, democratic government, ordained ministry, principle of association
of churches), 4) Freedom (individual liberty, church liberty, in relation to state), 5)
Mission. (Watchman Examiner, 26 January 1967.)

Macmillan, 1952) p. 79.
6. Donald F. Durnbaugh, The Believers’ Church (London: Macmillan, 1968)
pp. 3-4. This volume is a good handy summary of believers’ church principles.
7. Peter Taylor Forsyth, quoted in Durnbaugh, p. 21. From Calvinism came
the emphasis on the Word, from Anabaptism “the personal and subjective religion
of the Spirit.”
8. Kahle, p. 66f. Cf. W. Morgan Patterson, Baptist Successionism: A Critical
View (Valley Forge, Pa.: Judson Press, 1969) p. 28.
9. Steeves, p. 336f. The second half of Steves’ dissertation is devoted to a dis-
cussion of Baptist theology.
10. Ibid., p. 444. “The Baptists seem to have simply absorbed dispensational
eschatology ethan thinking about it very much.” Cf. C. Norman Kraus, Dispensa-
tionalism in America: Its Rise and Development (Richmond, Va.: John Knox Press,
1958); Richard Quebedeaux, The Young Evangelicals, p. 8.
11. A recent doctoral thesis by leaner de Chalandeau, “The Theology of
the Evangelical Christians-Baptists in the USSR as Reflected in the Bratskti
Vestnik,” (Strassbourg, France, Faculté de Theologie Protestante, 1978) faults Brat-
skii Vestnik for omitting this subject but Chalandeau assumes a stronger dispensa-
tional-premillennial position than the evidence warrants.
19. That is an area of research for which there appears to be a lack of vision.
