Primary Sources The writings of the Soviet evangelicals constitute the major source for this book. The AUCECB journal Bratskii Vestnik became a rich informa- tional treasure when I prepared biographical and geographical index cards on the informational tidbits the journal contains. The book also relies heavily on Reform Baptist Samizdat materials, the most complete collection of which is kept at Keston College, London, although my own files are also quite extensive. Much of the Samizdat material before 1974 has appeared in the Arkhiva Samizdata (Radio Liberty, Munich) with volumes 14, 15, 19, . and 27 of the Sobranie Dokumentov Samizdata devoted almost exclusively to religious Samizdat. Another rich source of information too extensive to cite in detail was the files of clippings from the Soviet and Western press plus other incidental materials in the growing collection at Keston College. Although it was often not possible to cite chapter and verse, the information gained from examining the files of the Baptist World Alliance (Washington and London offices) and the Mennonite Central Committee was of great importance. Perhaps even more valuable was the informtaion gained from systematic interviews that I have been conducting with Soviet German emi- grants to West Germany since 1974. II.
