demy in Krakow and the University of Silesia. Among them, the works of Jozef Zycinski, Piotr Gutowski and Rafal S. Nizinski deserve a special mention. 1 Years ago, Whitehead’s thought was reflected in the writings of Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz and Roman Ingarden. 2 The year 2003 witnessed the establishment of the Katowice-based Whitehead Metaphysical Society which organises regular academic conferences devoted to process philosophy and theology. 3 At the same time, it seems that very few people in Poland actually practice this theology and certainly none are officially regarded as its representatives. This may perhaps indicate a general weakness of Polish theology, characterised by a strong tendency to abide within the boundaries of ecclesiastical correctness. Against this background, Waclaw Hryniewicz must certainly be considered an exception and even though calling him a process theologian would not be entirely adequate, I view him as coming closest to this trend among Polish thinkers. I have particularly in mind issues related to complementariness as the gnoseological principle, the processual character of reality and the relation of Christianity to other religions.
